Kudos on fishing hut program award

Dear Editor,

I was thrilled to see in the Oct. 4th issue of Sylvan Lake News the municipal sustainability award given to the Sylvan Lake Management Committee from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association in recognition of the Take It Off — Respect Sylvan Lake program.

This program was established to cut down on the number of ice fishing huts abandoned on our lake at the end of the winter ice fishing season.

The AUMA also passed a resolution that the province implement a mandatory hut registration program.

As many readers will recall, this issue of abandoning huts has long been a “thorn in my side”, and it was with a great amount of relief and happiness that finally now the province may enforce mandatory hut registration to keep our lake one of the cleanest in the province outside of the mountain parks.

Kudos to Mayor Susan Samson and all the committee on a job well done!

Bill Hollingshead,
