Spending $100,000 for sandy area an insult to taxpayers

The Western States have experienced severe drought in the last three years.

Dear Editor,

The Western States have experienced severe drought in the last three years. In California many lakes and reservoirs are totally dry, exposing all their rocks and continuous sandy beach. In some areas, water rationing for personal and agricultural use is a non-issue as there is no water to be rationed but it is trucked in for household use.

We, in Sylvan Lake, are blessed with an abundance of drinking water and a beautiful clean lake in which the water level has risen over the years to cover most of the sandy beach area.

Now some of our elected town officials are contemplating spending $100,000 on an environmental report and to conduct studies and costs to resurrect a beach area above or below the seawall.

I, for one, do not need a sandy area above or below the seawall to enjoy GOD’S CREATION and be thankful for it.

Spending $100,000 of tax dollars on this issue is an insult to many taxpayers of this community.

Hopefully reality and common sense will prevail.

Nick Charney,

Sylvan Lake
