The Eckville Curling Rink will play host to their annual Ladies Bonspiel next month.

From February 10-11, women curlers of all skill levels will compete for rink supremacy in Eckville. Organizer of the bonspiel, Laura Howatt, is hoping that the spiel will have significantly higher numbers than last year’s tournament.

“This year we are looking to get 16 teams. Last year we had eight teams, so we want a few more this year,” she explained.

Howatt wanted to remind curlers that the bonspiel is open to all skill levels

“It’s everywhere from beginner to experienced curlers,” she said. “It’s a good weekend to socialize and get some curling in. It’s also a good reason for a lot of women to get out for the weekend.”

The cost of the spiel is $200 per team and guarantees the team at least three draws with a provided supper on Saturday evening followed by the chance of prizes.

“On Friday there will be a couple games. Then on Saturday we have a full day of curling followed by a supper and prizes. The prizes are donated by local businesses,” Howatt said.

The bonspiel currently has plenty of volunteers, however organizers are looking for local teams to curl and sponsors for draw prizes. To get involved you can contact Howatt at 403 597 0517, or by contacting the curling rink at eckvillecurlingclub@live.com
