The Sylvan Lake Lacrosse Association held its first ever War on the Shore tournament on May 11-13.
The tournament saw 18 teams from across Alberta converge on Sylvan Lake for a weekend full of action-packed games.
Amy Fonda, president of the lacrosse association, said there was around 300 players and their families in the NexSource Centre over the weekend.
“It was so incredible,” said Fonda in an email. “We [also] had the vendors Slash from Red Seer, Can Lax from St. Albert and the T-shirt Guys from Edmonton.”
In total there were 18 teams, spread through peewee to midget brackets, playing in both arenas over the course of the three days.
Teams came from across the province including Medicine Hat, Lloydminister, Calgary, Edmonton, Didsbury and Lacombe.
The Sylvan Lake Midget Buccaneers made it to the final championship game on May 13.
“Sylvan lake Buccaneers midget were the only team to medal and took the second place trophy in a tough game versus Medicine Hat,” said Fonda.
This was the first tournament the association had planned, and a lot of work and time went into War on the Shore.
Sylvan Lake’s Mayor Sean McIntyre was also present during the tournament.
McIntyre had the honour of dropping the ball at the start of the first game of the tournament when Sylvan Lake played Didsbury.
