Midgets swept north division; start league championship series tomorrow

Sylvan Lake Midget AA Lakers swept the north division championship series against Red Deer Elks in two games.

The Lakers defeated the Elks on Saturday night with a score of 7-3.

Points were accumulated by Travis Mayan (#22) with six (three goals and three assists) Tyler Yach (#19) with five (one goal and four assists) Bryce Marshall (#5) (three assists), Kealan Ellerby (#14) with two (one goal and one assist) Brody Bolton (#12) (one goal) Matt Johnson (#10) (one goal) Carson Walker (#20) (one assist) and Austin Wilson (#11) (one assist).

The second game on Sunday was no so easy. The Elks did not want to surrender or give up — it was an ongoing battle right to the bitter end. This game could have gone either way.

After going into a second overtime Justis Lowry (#15) sealed the deal giving the Lakers a 4-3 victory.

Points were collected by Tyler Yach (#19) (two goals), Draven Jerry (#8) (one goal and one assist) Justis Lowry (#15) (one goal and one assist) Travis Mayan (#22) (one assist) Brock Boguski (#6) (one assist) and Aidan Wilson (#9) (one assist).

The boys now sit back and relax waiting until the south division has been decided between Badlands Longhorns and Lethbridge Hockey Hounds.

The final series for the league SCAHL championship will commence tomorrow (Friday). Hope to see you all at the rink!
