Nauticals earned several best times, top awards, at Valentine meet

Sylvan Lake Nauticals Swim Club sent 20 swimmers to Red Deer Catalina Valentine Invitational Meet Feb. 8-9.

Sylvan Lake Nauticals Swim Club sent 20 swimmers to Red Deer Catalina Valentine Invitational Meet Feb. 8-9. The ages of our group ranged from 8-15 year olds.

Our 10 & under girls were represented by Capri Fraser (8), Sarah McClelland (9), Molly Cocks (10), Leightan Yablonski (10), Eden Price (10), Mackenzie Siemens (10) and Zoe DeJonge (10).

Capri swam her maximum of seven events, with some being attempted for the first time in competition. She did a great job with her technique in all swims, highlighted by a best time in 50 fly.

Sarah swam in six events, and earned best times in 50 fly, 100 back, and 100 IM where she dropped a full eight seconds.

Molly swam in five events where she earned best times in 50 breast, 100 IM (dropping almost nine seconds), and 50 free where she dropped a huge 7.5 seconds.

Leightan swam in five events and earned best times in 50 fly, 100 back, and 100 IM, where she dropped over 10 seconds.

Eden swam in a full seven events, and earned best times in 50 fly, 100 free (placing fifth), and 100 back (placing sixth). Eden also placed fourth in 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 IM.

Mackenzie swam in a full seven events, and earned best times in 50, 100 breast (placing second), 100 back, 50 free, and 100 IM (placing second), and 200 IM (placing fifth).

Zoe swam in a full seven events, and earned best times in 50 fly (placing third), 50 back (placing first), 100 back (placing second), and 200 free (placing second). Zoe not only dropped over 13 seconds in her 200 free, but also achieved a 10 & under A time in that event. Zoe also placed first in 50 and 100 free.

Justin St. Germain (9) swam in a full seven events in the boys 10 & under category, and earned best times in 50, 200, and 400 free (placing fourth), 50, 100 back, 50 breast (placing second) and 100 IM (placing sixth). Justin has been showing huge improvement as highlighted by a 19 second drop in his 200 free.

In the girls 11-12 year old age group, Justice Fancie (11) swam best times in 50, 100 back, and 200 free. A highlight for her was a 400 free MQT (Meet Qualifying Time), which qualified her to attend Age Group Trials, Feb 21-23.  Congratulations Justice!

Kora-Lynn Juneau (11) swam best times in 50, 100 Back, 50 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 free. Kora-Lynn showed a dramatic 8.5 second drop in 100 back.  Megan Abram (12) swam best times in 50, 100 free, 100 IM, and 100 back (with nearly a 10 second drop).

Eliana Mulholland (12) swam best times in 100 IM (placing eighth), and 200 breast (placing tenth). Eliana also placed tenth in her 100 free.

Elizabeth Moore (12) placed first in both the 50 fly and 100 free.

Jordan Smith (12) swam best times in 50, 100 back, 50 (placing seventh), 100, 200 breast (placing seventh), 200 IM, and 400 free where she dropped over 26 seconds.

In the boys 11-12 year old age group, Nicholas Moore (12) swam best times in 100 free, 100 IM (placing ninth), 50, 100 back. Nick dropped over 4 seconds in each of his backstroke events.

Callan Flanagan (12) swam best times in 50 breast (dropping over 9 seconds) and 100 free.

Michael Carson (12) swam best times in each of his four swims, which included the 50 breast, 100 free, 400 IM, and 800 free. Michael dropped over a minute from his 400 IM as well as setting a club record. Michael also dropped 44 seconds from his 800 free, which earned him a 13 year old MQT, and another club record.

In the girls 13-14 age group, Kacey Joseph swam best times in 50 fly, 50 breast, 100 back, 200 IM, and 200 free (placing seventh), with a 16 second drop.

In the girls 15 & over age group Ann Duffy (15) swam best times in 50 back (placing first) and 100 back (placing second).

Lexi Sparrow (15) earned best times in 50 fly (placing fifth), 50 Back (placing third), 200 free (placing third), and 100 IM (placing fourth). Way to go, Nauticals!
