The handlers in the arena await the nod of the bull rider before pulling the chord and getting out of the way. The bull rider is given the time he needs to make sure he is in the right position and that he has a firm grip before being released.

Cowboys from all around the world were in attendance at Eckville’s Bull Arena event Saturday night.

Along with local cowboys, and Canadian cowboys, there were bull riders present from South America and New Zealand.

It was a rough night for the cowboys, as only a handful made it onto the board during the long round round.

Brazilian bull rider Italo Aguilar finished the long round in the lead with 85 points.

It was a three way tie for second place after the long round. Lane Jensen, Cooper Zur and Casey Berg all gave a 82.5 point ride.

Sean Clark finished the long with 79 points and third place.

The top six riders from the long round went onto the short round, with the first and second place winner leaving the Bull Arena with a new belt buckle.

The night also put four Eckville cowboys in the hot seat. The game of Mexican Poker was held in between rounds.

The four cowboys were tasked with the dangerous task of staying seated while a bucking bull charged through the arena. Last one seated was declared the winner, as he quickly raced to safety.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Eckville Bull Arena, and is a sanctioned World Professional Bull Riding Association event.

Professional rodeo announcer Keith Dinwoodie acted as the official announcer during night.
