Stettler Wildcats downed at home by HJ Cody Lakers

First of back-to-back home games for Wildcats

The Stettler Wildcats offensive woes continued to them when the team hosted the Sylvan Lake  HJ Cody Lakers on Oct. 3.

HJ Cody drew first blood just before the five-minute mark of the first quarter when Jace Martins snuck through the Wildcats defence and scored six points with a touchdown.

Returning to centre field, with the ball in the hands of the Wildcats both teams played a game of give-and-take, neither giving much ground until just before the end of the quarter when the Wildcat's Wyatt Jacky ran in a touchdown of his own.

Unlike the Lakers, Wildcats player Evan Blanchard was able to score with the conversion, which put Stettler up 7-6 at the end of the quarter.

However, that was where the scoring would end for Stettler for the night, the rest of the game was all Sylvan Lake.

HJ Cody would run in four more touchdowns in the second quarter, along with four conversions. The touchdowns included a 50-yard run-in by Kohen Blair after he managed to get through the Wildcats defence right at the start of the second quarter.

At the end of the first half, the score was 34-7.

The bleeding continued in the second half, with HJ Cody picking up another pair of touchdowns, a safety and two-point conversion.

By the time the dust settled, the hometown Wildcats were downed 50-7.

The Wildcats have one more game at home this season when they play Red Deer's Lindsay Thurber High School on Oct. 10.
