The Sylvan Lake Gulls are updating their fans on the vandalism that caused damage at Gulls Stadium on May 28.

President and COO of the Gulls Aqil Samuel said in a statement they do not know if the three young suspects have been apprehended by police but that the organization is ready to move past it.

On May 29, staff came to the ballpark to discover significant damage to the Provincial Vodka patio’s picnic tables and new bar. Three youths were seen on surveillance camera footage entering the stadium through the main gate.

Following the incident, staff, and team members helped clean up and once it was posted to social media they saw a great response from the community.

“We would like to thank you, the fans for being so supportive,” Samuel said in the statement. “It means a lot to us, and we are so proud and grateful to call this community our home.”

Samuel went on to thank Clearview Glass for replacing the windows and to Fountain Tire for new tires on the Gulls wagon in time for the 1912 parade.

Pepsi also replaced the cooler on the patio and Wayvet Welding fixed the picnic tables quickly before the next game.

“We believe this adversity will make us stronger,” he added

Sylvan Lake’s game in Okotoks on Wednesday was postponed due to weather but the Gulls will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at home against the Moose Jaw Miller Express at 7:05 p.m.
