The Sylvan Lake Yetti Lacrosse team is one step closer to their provincial dreams.

The local team will play back-to-back games in Sylvan Lake this weekend to secure a spot in the provincial playoffs next week.

The first place Yettis will take on the rival down the road, when the Red Deer Renegades fight for a coveted spot in the provincial playoffs.

In a past interview Yettis Coach Cal Thudium said it was a goal for the team to make it to provincials, and he believed this was the year for them.

In the past the junior team has never made it to the provincial tournament.

According to Thudium the team has the skill, drive and speed to make it.

The team improved over the course of the season, and showed everyone they were determined to take the playoff spot.

The Yettis even came out of second place to take first and displace the Renegades from the top spot in the Southwest.

The Yettis play at home twice this weekend. The first game is Fri., June 20 with the ball dropping at 8 p.m. and the second game taking place the following day at 2 p.m.

Both games will be against the Renegades, and will be held at the NexSource Centre.

The series will decide who will move on to play the best in province at provincials July 27-29.

The team is hoping to see a lot of fans out, enough to fill the stands, and cheer them on to their first provincial playoff spot.
