Tigers claw their way to gold at Las Vegas tournament

The West Central Midget AA Tigers brought a gold medal home from the International Silver Stick Las Vegas Tournament.

The Tigers roared to victory with a 4-1 record at the American Thanksgiving weekend tournament.

The Tigers started their battle against the American teams with a 6-0 win over the Park City Miners before their first 3-2 victory over the California Wave.

The Tigers’ third game of the tournament brought them a loss to the Golden State Elite Eagles, but they pounced back with a 1-0 win over the Arizona Jr. Sun Devils.

The Tigers finished divisional play tied for first overall with their tournament finalists rivals the California Wave with a record of 3-1.

The two faced off for the final game at the Las Vegas Ice Centre.

Each team scored a goal in the first period leaving the teams with a 1-1 draw heading into the second.

During the middle frame each team exchanged goals once again, which lead them to head into the third period tied 2-2.

The Tigers became tournament champions with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Wave in front of a loud and proud section of Canadian fans.

“O Canada” was sung as the Tigers received their International Silver Stick Tournament gold medals.

The Tigers are back in South Central Alberta Hockey League action this weekend with two road games against the Okotoks Oilers and the Calgary Rangers.

Their next home game is Dec. 8 against the Calgary Blackhawks at the Eckville Arena.
