Yettis continue the season in second place

With one win and one loss over the weekend, the Sylvan Lake Yettis have been able to keep hold of their second place spot.

The weekend started with a win for the Yettis over the Calgary Wranglers on May 5.

The Yettis met the Wranglers with a home field advantage, winning 10-4.

The stunning triumph over the Wranglers, was a rematch of the first game of the season.

The game started close on both sides of the score clock.

The Yettis were first on the board with Josh Green, assisted by Mitch Wilton and Braydon McLaughlin, successfully connecting with the ball minutes into the first period.

The Yettis scored a total of two times in the first period, all within the first 10 minutes of play. The Wranglers answered with two points of their own to round out the first period.

In the middle frame, the Yettis took charge. The team scored a total of four points over the period, two of which were earned by Hunter Thudium.

The visiting Wranglers made it through the Yettis defences twice during the 20 minute period.

The Yettis finished the game with another four points, while keeping the Renegades at bay and scoreless in the final period.

The Yettis then faced the team’s second defeat of the season thus far at the hands of the Red Deer Renegades on May 6.

The Renegades won in Red Deer 12-7.

After a strong showing against the Wranglers the day before, the Yettis came out of the gate strong and raring to go.

Tristen Hess, assisted by Thudium put the Yettis on the board during the May 6 game.

In the first 20 minutes of play the Yettis wracked up seven points, and created an impressive lead over the home team.

At the end of the first period the Yettis lead 7-1.

However, the Yettis couldn’t keep their footing during the game and and lost their lead in the second period, when the Renegades scored six times.

Without scoring once in the second or third periods, the Yettis lost 12-7, when the Renegades picked up another five points in the final period.

The Yettis will have their next home game on May 16, and will face off against the Olds Stingers. The ball drops at 8 p.m.
