For over 20 years, the Sylvan Lake Endowment Fund (SLEF) has been distributing grants to local agencies in Sylvan Lake and surrounding areas. Established in 2001, this fund with the Red Deer & District Community Foundation (RDDCF) aims to strengthen the quality of life of Sylvan Lake residents.

If you’ve ever wanted to explore your artistic side, now is your chance. The Sylvan Lake Theatre group is hoping to foster local talent and they’ll be hosting a playwright workshop and storytelling circles to get people’s creative minds working.

The Eckville & District Historical Society held a community meeting on Sept. 21 to seek community support for establishing a museum in Eckville’s first hospital. The response was encouraging, about 20 people attended the meeting and 30 more sent their regrets for not being able to attend but voiced their support for the project. Given the support demonstrated, it was decided that the society would take steps to start the museum.

Ment-To-Matter program back for the 2022/2023 school year

If you’re looking for something fun to do this Thanksgiving weekend, grab your friends and come out to the Sylvan Lake Friendsgiving event, Oct. 8 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Centennial Park.

Sylvan Lake’s Youth Empowerment Awareness Hub (YEAH) will be hosting a bottle drive next week and the money raised will go towards helping YEAH become a reality.

Sylvan Lake town councillor Kjeryn Dakin and her husband, Kevin, recently purchased a property not too far from Sylvan’s Lakeshore Drive. And while many purchasing a home might expect to find a leaky tap or a drafty window after the purchase goes through, the Dakins found a veritable treasure trove of history in their newly acquired basement.
